Vietnam Airlines cancels 44 flights due to typhoon
National carrier Vietnam Airlines (VNA) has announced cancellations of 44 flights scheduled for today due to impacts of Typhoon Jebi that is forecast to hit northern Vietnam this afternoon.
In light of adverse weather conditions caused by the powerful storm, the flag carrier has decided to cancel 42 domestic flights and two international flights to Laos’s Luang Prabang and Cambodia’s Siem Reap scheduled for today.
The canceled Vietnam domestic flights include 10 flights to and from Hai Phong and 30 others to and from Hanoi, VNA reported.
Also due to the approaching typhoon, budget carrier Jetstar Pacific Airlines announced that Flights BL 512 and BL 513 scheduled for today between HCMC and northern Hai Phong City will take off from or land in Hanoi instead of Hai Phong as previously planned.
Passengers on these flights will be transported free of charge between Hanoi and Hai Phong, the firm said.
According to the National Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Center, Typhoon Jebi, after sweeping China’s Hainan Island, is heading for Vietnam’s northern coastal provinces.
Packing maximum winds of 102 kph, the powerful storm is moving at a speed of 25 kph in the Gulf of Tonkin and will land in the northeastern region between Quang Ninh and Thai Binh provinces this afternoon, the center said.
