Learning Vietnamese About Culture and People

When learn Vietnamese online, I have a chance to start learn Vietnamese, which help me find out more about Vietnamese people and culture. Vietnamese is usually known as “Kinh” people, and the root of this name caught my attention. During the very moment of Vietnam’s history, people usually gather around crowded areas such as Ha Noi or Hue (which were capital of Vietnam).

Then during the period of enlarging Vietnam’s territory, our Kings told his people to move to Southern Vietnam and start build up houses there, then the King will come by himself to claim that area as Vietnam’s territory. People from different areas of the country come to Southern Vietnam, including people who live near the capital, difficult areas where they couldn’t make a living, and also criminals who escaped from prison. When they gather together, they usually asked each other where they come from. Many wanted to hide their pasts, so they say I came from the capital ( in Vietnamese, capital means kinh thành). Gradually, they shorten the name and called it “Kinh”. That’s where the name of the race came from. Vietnamese people, according to historical records, is an unification of Chinese, Mongolian and Khmer.
